Is Basso too ambitious?

Ivan Basso, ambitiously going after both the Giro and the Tour, is back in action in La Fleche Wallonne for a CSC team seeking their third straight victory in a spring classic.
Team CSC is looking impressive and a clear favorite for both tours, but is Basso being too ambitious, should he just focus on the tdf and use the Giro as training? (This is what Ullrich is doing). Will Basso's decision play into Ullrich's hand in the tour de France? Only time will tell, but Basso for sure doesn't lack courage.

Wim De Vocht out
Davitamon-Lotto's Wim de Vocht will be out of the Giro. He crashed at the Ronde. A medical examination yesterday revealed pleural damage, in addition to to two cracked ribs and a broken elbow. The elbow does not require plaster, but the pleural injury will necessitate a long spell off the bike. De Vocht is not expected to return to racing until June at the earliest, putting him out of the team's line-up for the Giro d'Italia.
